The Upper Tiber Aeromodellisti Group was founded in 1982 in a notary's office in Citta di Castello. A want were a group of model airplane enthusiasts friends who for years practiced this hobby in the Upper Tiber Valley countryside.
The Group, non-profit organization, aims to develop and practice the aeromodellistica activities at all levels, from the simple to free flight model to the most sophisticated aircraft of the last generation.
After three years of activity in itinerant way without a specific airfield, in 1985, the Group is setting up on an area of ​​the Consortium Hydraulic Tiber River along the banks of the river in S. Fiora Sansepolcro (AR). By reason of the location of the airfield officially transfer the registered office from Città di Castello (PG) in Sansepolcro, in the hamlet S. Fiora (AR).
With great will and determination of the shareholders and the only self-financing, in the space of a year it can accommodate the airfield along optimally the bank of the Tiber.
The following year he organized the first meetings aeromodellistici and began to be known as the Association, is to subscribe to the Charter of the Association of the City of Sansepolcro and by organizing exhibitions in the towns of the valley.
The geological conditions of the airfield along the Tiber, however, are destined to deteriorate in a short time. In 1991, severe erosion of the river due to frequent flooding, almost compromised the flight prepared soil in years of hard work and sacrifices. The degree of slope erosion was such as to force the GAAT to seek new ground.
After a long search was identified land, in loc. Mocaia along the straight that leads from Sansepolcro Anghiari which was the seat of the Group from 1992 to 2004.
Forced once again to find a new airbase, in 2005 the new airfield was recreated in a plot in the town of Anghiari (AR) premises where Sterpeto is still held, the Group's flight operations. The track consists of a nice turf long 270 meters wide and 30 meters.
The Group currently has over 30 members, all fans of model airplanes and all regularly covered by insurance RCT.
The GAAT is associated with FIAM (www.fiamaero.it) which is based in Milan and counts among its members also an instructor with Aeromodelism obtained license from the Aero Club of Italy.
The flight activity is practiced normally on Saturday and Sunday.
